Chapter 7 Changes
At "Connecting iOS and Android Devices":
A Hackintosh provides you the ability to sync and transfer files between it and your iOS or Android device. When you connect an iOS device to your Hackintosh, iTunes will launch automatically. Then you're able to register and backup your settings, transfer music, use the iTunes store and purchase apps, and more. When you connect an Android device to your Hackintosh, nothing may happen as there is no default Android-recognition software in OS X. However, you have three ways to overcome this obstacle:
If for some reason you cannot seem to connect and/or sync your device with your Hackintosh, your last resort may be to plug in a USB Bluetooth device, activate Bluetooth on your mobile device, then synchronize and transfer files.
At "(Re)Activating Windows":
If you started by installing Windows to another drive, you may now re-connect the hard drive with Windows on it. Shut down your Hackintosh, connect the hard drive data and power cables to the Windows drive, then reboot into BIOS/UEFI to ensure that the Windows drive can be seen. If the drive is detected, boot back to the OS X drive to Clover. At that window select the last option of “Exit Clover” and it should take you to the Windows drive (as long as you have “UEFI and Legacy” selected in the UEFI/BIOS. Sometimes it can be hit or miss.
At "OS X Updates":
With Yosemite and prior, system software updates on a Hackintosh involved getting a combo update from Apple's website and applying it. Thanks to Clover, this drawn-out process is no longer required, but precautionary steps needed to be observed. If you're running a Hackbook, then you're using Intel's built-in graphics from your processor and no precautions are needed. If you're running a Hackintosh, you'll want to get the latest Nvidia drivers before upgrading. These drivers are usually available the same day or day of the new release and are found on the front page of tonymacx86.com.
To update the software go to the Apple menu (far upper left hand corner) → About This Mac, then click on Software Update. You can also go to the App Store, click on Updates, and begin to apply the updates that way. What usually happens is the machine will quit all running applications and begin to download the update. That process takes about 10-15 minutes and may or may not restart while in the middle of the update. When finished, the Hackintosh will restart but the graphics may be at a lower resolution (icons enlarged, stretched text, etc). Once you're at the Desktop you can apply the Nvidia updates, restart again, and your Hackintosh will reboot correctly.

When you connect an Android device to your Hackintosh, nothing may happen as there is no default Android-recognition software in OS X. However, you have three ways to overcome this obstacle:
- Download the specific software – There may be specific software available for OS X and your device. If you own a Samsung Galaxy-series phone, the app named Kies (free download from http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/) will assist in backing up your settings and transferring files. I own an HTC One M9 smartphone and use the HTC Sync Manager app for the same functions. Simply Google “(your device) OS X” and see what hits you get. If the results show nothing to help...
- Download the Android File Transfer - This free program is available from https://www.android.com/intl/en_us/filetransfer/ and is a generic substitute for specific-device software. The program launches when you connect your Android device to your Hackintosh via a USB cable and displays a Finder-like window to your devices files and folders. To transfer items drag and drop items between the Android File Transfer window and the windows in OS X. The Android File Transfer program is a bit buggy in some areas and may not work as well as specific programs designed for your smartphone.
- If you're simply copying files from the SD card, you can remove the SD card from your phone or tablet, place it in a microSD-to-SD adapter, place the adapter in a USB card reader, then attach the USB device to an open USB port on your Hackintosh. It will appear as a regular flash drive or hard drive where you can move and copy files at will. While this only works for Micro-SD cards and not your Android device's internal memory, it works a lot faster compared to the first two methods.
If for some reason you cannot seem to connect and/or sync your device with your Hackintosh, your last resort may be to plug in a USB Bluetooth device, activate Bluetooth on your mobile device, then synchronize and transfer files.
