Chapter 3 Changes
Under title:
Note: I've taken an Lenovo P580 laptop and installed OS X to it, and it has a minimal DOS-like BIOS that allows me to go into UEFI mode for just the boot. This UEFI mode doesn't change the look and feel from BIOS to UEFI, but enables me to switch between booting into Windows or OS X.
This section explains various BIOS settings you'll need to change or check in order to nable maximum OS X compatibility. If you're attempting to get OS on your laptop, more than likely your laptop will have far less screens with the same options available. Nonetheless, it may benefit you to read this section and make similar changes to your laptop's BIOS settings. This will be especially helpful if you can't find the right settings when doing a Google search for your laptop and adding the word “hackintosh”, but may be strenuous when attempting to adjust what you think may be the right parameters.
Under "Gigabyte UEFI Screens":Under the OS type, set these parameters:
OS Type = Other OS
Boot Mode Selection = UEFI and Legacy
Storage Boot Option Control = UEFI First
Other PCI Device ROM Priority = Legacy Only
Note: These settings may vary depending on your motherboard. It's best to try a single drive set for OS X first. If you have a second drive for Windows and wish to use that, you can experiment further. Using the above settings, my Hackintosh will search the drives, find the one with Clover (bootloader) on it and load that first. Once Clover loads I can select my OS X drive and boot with that, or select “Exit Clover” to which the machine will then search for my Windows hard drive and load that.
Sentence regarding ErP:
Old version: Also ensure that (similar to the screenshot above) you have the ErP setting set to Enabled.
New Version: Also ensure that (similar to the screenshot above) you have the ErP setting set to Enabled. If you are using an older board with BIOS, your HPET setting may allow you to select between 32- and 64-bit. Ensure this is set to 64-bit for better capability.
